Rana Ayyub will be reading and discussing from her book ‘Gujarat Files’. It is an eight month under cover investigation on the fake encounters and Gujarat riots exposing the complicity of Politicians. In 2010, her investigation on fake encounters landed the first serving Home Minister Amit Shah behind bars. Posing as Maithili Tyagi, a student of the American Film Institute Conservatory along with a French intern, she did a sting operation on some of the top officials and bureaucrats in Gujarat. Tehelka, the organisation for which she did this investigation refused to publish it citing political pressure. Further two publication houses with whom she had a contract eased out of it. When the mainstream media too looked the other way, she self published the book in May 2016. From 500 copies to 40000 copies, Gujarat Files is one of the success of the year 2016. In a review, Business Standard called it India’s entry to the Pulitzer.
