The North East Panorama/ Screening and Discussions


Sanjoy Hazarika has just taken over as Director of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), having earlier set up the first Centre for North East Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and the innovative C-NES which runs the pioneering boat clinics of Assam in partnership with the National Health Mission, reaching over 4 lakh persons with health care esp vulnerable women and children on islands in the Brahmaputra river. Writer, author (he has just finished his sixth book — fifth on the NE) , activist, researcher, innovator, teacher, policy analyst and documentary film maker (with over 15 documentaries) Hazarika has, for over 30 years, explained the nuances and contours of the NER and its neighbourhood to audiences and readers across India and the world. He will screen two of his films on the region, one is based on his own work with the boat clinics — Where there are no Roads (38 minutes) and his latest documentary on Mizoram, Rambuai, – Mizoram’s ‘Trouble’ Years (45 minutes).
